Here goes...

    Everybody has something to say.  Each person feels that what they have to say is important.  Those facts are what made me rationalize starting a blog.  I plan to talk about a variety of things.  I like sports, food, parties, relationships, traveling, politics etc.  So this blog should be pretty diverse.  It'll be more about opening myself up to you, than hearing about a specific topic.  I welcome all to voice their opinions as I learn how to navigate this thing and I guess we're off.

A bit about me:

    As I write this (June of 2013), I'm 30, married with no kids.  I'm from Miami, Florida, but I've lived in Texas, Chicago, Maryland and some other places throughout my childhood.  At 18 I joined the military and got to make the best friends ever and travel a bit.  I also got to meet my beautiful wife, so thanks Air Force!  My wife and I lived on the east coast for six years (Jersey and Maryland) and we recently moved to her home country of Sweden.  I curse too much and I find a lot of shit funny too soon.  I consider myself a social butterfly (yeah I said it!) and I love to meet people.  That's partly what made me start this thing.  The culture here that I've encountered is not so 'meet people friendly'.  People panic if you say hello on the bus.  I'm not shitting you.  So I figured I'd document my thoughts to you, my readers as if we are on the bus chit-chatting away.  I don't know what to expect from this thing, but my goal is to remain disciplined and update it/you regularly on "Expat Jon".  Hopefully you enjoy this.  Our journey begins... NOW.

Confessions of a "Good Guy"

I always considered myself one of the good guys when it comes to women.  I am a proud feminist that actively tries to grow in my feminism.  Back in the day I was honest with women when I didn't want to get serious.  I thought I was doing my part.  Then I read this article about rape culture . From Hero to History (my daddy issues)

My first hero ever was my dad. He was the fastest, strongest, smartest and funniest man in the world. He could do no wrong in my eyes. I'm sure that's the case with many young children. My case of dad-praise had to have been extreme. I never snapped out of it. I stopped believing in the Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause at about the same time as other kids, but it took me way longer to stop idolizing my dad. It's weird because the signs were there. I didn't bat an eye when he would flirt with the lady at the fast food window. I even longed for my opportunity to do it one day when I got a car and drove with my sunglasses on, bobbing my head to the latest hot music. About strip clubs

One of the things that's considered pretty popular amongst men in America is strip clubs.  Going to a strip club is a pretty prominent thing in movies and TV when depicting the "average Joe" going out with his friends.  If someone tells you that they're going to a bachelor party, you assume there will either be a strip club or strippers involved.  That's not so much the case here in Sweden.  From what I hear, strip clubs do exist here.  But I have yet to see a strip club marquee or billboard or any other type of advertisement for one.  Sweden is known for having beautiful women, so one would assume that there would be an easily-located place where one could see said beautiful women either drop it like it is indeed hot or shake what her momma had given her. I have heard about the strip clubs here.  Legend has it that they are unreasonably expensive ($50+ cover charge, $100+ dances) and don't sell alcohol.  Those facts alone would keep me from patronizing such
